DUBAI: India's star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been awarded the prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year. The award recognizes Bumrah's outstanding performances across all formats in 2024. He is the fifth Indian player and the first pacer from India to win this honour. Bumrah also received the ICC Test Cricketer of the Year award.
Before Bumrah, Rahul Dravid (2004), Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), and Virat Kohli (2017 and 2018) had achieved this feat for India. Despite India losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series to Australia 3-1 earlier this month, Bumrah's performance stood out as remarkable. He was named Player of the Series after taking 32 wickets during the series.
Last year, Bumrah played 13 Test matches and claimed 71 wickets at an exceptional bowling average of 14.92. His impactful performances were crucial in India's series wins against Bangladesh and England last year. Bumrah also showcased his leadership skills by captaining India to victory against Australia in Perth during Rohit Sharma's absence.
