KOCHI: Police said the girl battling for life in Chottanikkara was subjected to severe brutality. Police said the accused Anoop tried to strangle her with a shawl. The girl, who was sexually abused had bruises all over her body. The girl is presently on ventilator in a private hospital in Kochi. Hospital authorities said that she is not responding to medicines.

Anoop of Thalayolaparambu got acquainted with her via Instagram. The police had earlier clarified that he was suspicious of her. Anoop and the girl were in a relationship for the past one year. Anoop, who came to the girl's house last Saturday, saw another man outside the house. Anoop thought that the man had come at her request. Anoop and the girl got into an argument over this and then he beat her brutally.

The police are also investigating whether the accused used any kind of weapon to attack her. The girl who was sexually abused tried to hang herself from a fan using a shawl. However, the police said Anoop untied the shawl and later tightened it around her neck.

Anoop will be produced in the court today. The police said they will complete collecting evidence before that. The accused gave the following statement to the police. 'He reached home at night after the girl could not be reached by phone. As soon as he reached home, he thrashed the girl. He forced her to have sex. When the girl refused, he sexually assaulted her. He banged her head on the wall. He suffocated her.

With this, the girl said that she was going to die, took a shawl, tied it to the fan and tightened it around her neck. Seeing this, he untied the shawl. The girl fell down, Anoop then pressed her face so that her sound could not be heard outside. With this, the girl fell unconscious. He spent about four hours at home. Thinking that the girl had died, he escaped through the back of the house,' said Anoop.
