rakesh-rathore-arrested

NEW DELHI: A Lok Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a woman under the false promise of marriage. Congress MP Rakesh Rathore, who represents the Sitapur constituency in the Lok Sabha, was taken into custody while addressing a press conference. The police arrested him on the complaint of the woman.

According to the woman's complaint, Rakesh had sexually abused her for the past four years after promising to marry her. A case was registered against him by the police on January 17. The complaint also mentions that Rakesh had promised her a political entry. The woman has reportedly handed over details of phone call conversations between them to the police as evidence.

Additionally, the woman's husband filed a complaint last week, alleging that Rakesh and his son had threatened them to settle the case. Rakesh’s anticipatory bail plea was recently rejected by the Allahabad High Court, leading to his arrest. Before joining Congress, Rakesh had contested assembly elections as a BJP candidate and later as an independent candidate.
