In an interview with Kaumudy Movies, bold model Gowril Siji Mathews shed light on her personal life and the choices she made while leaving behind a lucrative job to pursue her passion. Gowri, a Kanjirappally native, is unperturbed by the criticism coming her way and has reasons for continuing in this bold modelling business.
GOWRI SIJI:
“I am from a Christian family in Kottayam. Indeed, my name is Siji Mathews. I was working in Kuwait as a nurse when it chanced upon me to turn my life in search of my passion. During those times, I got a role in a movie and the character’s name was Gowri. When I entered into modelling, I chose to keep Gowri as my prefix. It has nothing with hurting any religious sentiments.
Some people go vile in comments and often tutor me to go for MGREGA daily wage work rather the giving away my modesty with such a bold photoshoot. I would like to clear the air on the issue. Let me give an example, just walk around Ernakulam bus depot during night hours and see how many sex workers are there in those nooks and corners. Why are they not opting for this daily wage work? It is because they find comfort in this job. The same works for me. I may get decent pay in a daily wage job but I like to do bold photoshoots. It is my choice. With my modelling work, I am earning good money so why give it up?
My father often ends his day with a peg of alcohol. Until recently, he used the old keypad phone and was not aware of my work. I have two sisters and they are my pillar of support. Recently my father was gifted with a smart phone and some among the neighbours showed my lesbian photoshoot to him. One day when I came back home from work, he came to me and said the photoshoot was good. He is a man who worked in Riyadh for many years and is not a prude. He respects my profession. Even my mother finds little fault in my work, but sometimes, we end up in squabbles.”
