WASHINGTON: The bodies of the forty dead in the collision between an American Airlines plane with a US military helicopter have been recovered. The remains of some have washed to the shore. The search has been temporarily suspended.

14 of the dead were figure skaters. They were returning from a function in Kansas. Russian ice-skating couple Vadim Naumov and Evgenia Shishkova were killed in the crash. The black boxes of the flight and the helicopter have been recovered. The authorities said the flight services, which were suspended following the accident, will resume today.

The accident occurred in Washington, DC at 8.47 pm local time on Wednesday (7.17 am Indian time yesterday). The American Airlines plane was flying from Wichita, Kansas, to Ronald Reagan National Airport when it crashed. A US Army Black Hawk helicopter, which was on a training flight, came into the runway. Three soldiers were on board the helicopter. After the collision, the helicopter and the plane exploded and fell into the Potomac River. The plane is a 20-year-old Bombardier CRJ-700 model.

US President Donald Trump confirmed that 67 people were killed in the crash. 'Sadly, there are no survivors. It is believed that 67 people died in the crash, including the three soldiers who were on the military helicopter,' he said.
