BALARAMAPURAM: The maternal uncle, who killed his two-and-a-half-year-old niece by throwing her into a well, will be produced in the court today. After completing the formalities, he will be produced in the Neyyattinkara Magistrate's Court by noon. The police will seek his custody.
The investigation team will question the child's parents again today. Devendu, the daughter of Sreethu and Sreejith, who lived in a rented house in Kottukalkonam, was murdered by her maternal uncle Harikumar (25).
Reports said Harikumar had illicit relations with many women. There are hints that he tried to have an illegitimate affair with his own sister Sreethu as well. The enmity that this did not happen may have led him to commit the murder.
The turning point in the case was when the police, noticing the behaviour of Harikumar and Sreethu and the contradictions in their statements, examined the WhatsApp chats of the two. The police concluded that Sreethu was not aware about the murder. He also tried to put the blame on his sister’s head. The police foiled Harikumar's attempts to pretend that he has mental issues if caught in the murder case.
Harikumar has been involved in many cases before. It is reported that he has instigated his sister to do many illegal things since then. Sreethu was shifted to the Poojappura Mahila Mandiram yesterday. There are also reports that the family had some superstitions. Clarity is yet to be revealed in this regard.
