BALARAMAPURAM: The police are questioning Sreethu, the mother of two-year-old Devendu, who was thrown into the well and killed in Kottukalkonam, Balaramapuram. The interrogation is being led by Rural SP SK Sudarshan at Poojappura Mahila Mandiram. Meanwhile, Harikumar, the uncle of the child and the accused in the case, has been remanded for 14 days by the court. He has been shifted to Neyyattinkara Sub Jail. No lawyers appeared in court to represent him. The Balaramapuram police will file a custody application tomorrow to question him further. On Friday evening, the police took the accused to the house and collected evidence.
According to the police, Harikumar (25) is suspected to have mental health issues. He has confessed to the crime but has not provided a clear reason for committing it. When asked why he murdered the child, he initially said he did not know. Upon repeated questioning, he gave contradictory answers, at one point claiming that he acted on impulse, but later changed his statement. His responses regarding his sister Sreethu were also inconsistent.
Hari's family had previously informed the police that he had a history of mental health issues. His behaviour during questioning was also erratic—he would cry and then suddenly laugh. At times, he became aggressive towards the police and refused to eat or drink anything except water.
Hari was interrogated by a team comprising Thiruvananthapuram Rural SP K.S. Sudarshan, Neyyattinkara DySP S. Shaji and Balaramapuram SHO Dharmajith P.S.
