KOCHI: The suicide of a 15-year-old boy in Tripunithura and the later followed news about the monstrous ragging he went through left many in shock and disbelief. Now, the parents of the victim came harshly against the school authorities for the crime.

According to a relative, the victim Mihir Muhammad (15) was subjected to severe physical abuse and caste discrimination. At the same time, the Global Public School in Kochi, where Mihir studied, denied having any evidence to substantiate the ragging allegations.

According to relatives, Mihir was often taunted with ‘Negro’ jibes by classmates, referring to his brownish skin colour. Senior students often beat him up in the name of ragging. Mihir joined Global School just months back, to escape from the similar torture he faced in the previous school.

After the death, friends from school sent screenshots of social media chats of their seniors to the Mihir’s mother. In the chat, the students who made Mihir go through brutal torture were seen ecstatic with no remorse, continuing their vile shaming of the victim despite learning about his tragic suicide.

The investigation team led by Thrikakkara ACP has collected information from the school authorities and some students. The police will check whether the child faced any problems at home. Mihir Muhammad died by jumping from the 23rd floor of a flat in Tripunithura on 15th January.
