Eminent writer K R Meera let the political cauldron burn in Kerala with a social media post criticizing Congress for trying to brush aside the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. Meera’s criticism received roses and brickbats alike but writer Benyamin was not ready to pull back any punches.
Benyamin:
“What KR Meera said is pure nonsense. Her criticism reeks of unawareness and the lack of know-how on the politics of erstwhile times. Scary is the fact that she writes this very well knowing that her criticism would give mileage and strengthen Sangh propaganda in Kerala. “
Earlier, Meera after sharing a newspaper cutout of Hindu Mahasabha honoring Gandhi’s assassin Godse, unabashedly critiqued Congress for trying to snub the legacy of Gandhi over the years. Her unwonted criticism sparked a debate and drew flak from many leaders of Congress on social media.
K R MEERA:
“I also have a lot to say about Benyamin's lack of knowledge in calling my post pure nonsense without even having the guts to protest against the deteriorating legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. Benyamin's attempt to picture me as a Sangh Parivar apologist is nothing but chicanery for his personnel plan to fawn to Hindutva ideology. I have never wavered my ideology and am not planning to ditch it anytime soon.
I have never made comments to fawn political parties, so as to grab some coveted prize. But Benyamin jumping the gun with impromptu criticism gives the feeling that he is on a mission to appease Congress workers and earn some political brownies. It is totally fine that you pretend as a great scholar, gentleman and torchbearer of morality. The less I talk on that, the better”
