RIYADH: A decision is likely to be taken on the release of Abdul Rahim of Kodampuzha near Feroke in Kozhikode, jailed in Saudi Arabia, today. The court will be considering the case again at 10.30 am (Indian time). This gives hope that the release order will be issued today itself. The final verdict and release order from the court are yet to be issued.

Even after considering the case six times earlier, the decision on the release was delayed due to various reasons. Although the court considered the plea on January 15, it

postponed the case to today, citing the need for scrutiny and further study. If the release order is issued today, Abdul Rahim will be able to return to his hometown soon. Rahim's mother had earlier said that her only wish is to see her son before she dies.

Abdul Rahim was jailed in December 2006 for the murder of a 15-year-old Saudi boy Anas Al-Shahiri, son of his sponsor. The way for his release was cleared after the boy’s family accepted the blood money of Rs 34 crore. Rahim went to Saudi Arabia in November 2006 as a driver in the house of Saudi national Abdulla Abdurahman Al Shahri and was tasked with taking care of his disabled son. Just a month after his arrival, Rahim accidentally hit the tube attached to the boy’s throat. Anas became unconscious and died.
