MALAPPURAM: Prabhin, husband of the woman found hanging in her in-laws’ house in Elankur, has been arrested. The dead is Vishnuja of Pookkottumpadam. She was found hanging at her husband Prabhin’s house in Elankur last Thursday.

Charges of domestic violence and abetment to suicide have been filed against Prabhin. He was taken into custody from his house in Manjeri this morning. Police said Prabhin will be produced in the court tomorrow after medical examination.

Vishnuja and Prabhin got married in May 2023. Prabhin is a staff nurse at Manjeri Medical College. The woman's family had alleged that Prabhin had constantly harassed her, saying that she had no job, that she is not beautiful and that the dowry given was less. He also brutally abused her over her complexion. Her family also alleged that when her daughter sought help from her in-laws, they stood with Prabhin.

The Manjeri police had registered a case of unnatural death in the woman's death. The Malappuram DySP is in charge of the investigation. The police said that if they get evidence on dowry harassment, those sections will also be charged.

Meantime, Prabhin’s family said they had not demanded or received dowry. There were differences of opinion between Prabhin and Vishnuja. She was not harassed at home. Prabhin's family said that they have no role in the death of Vishnuja.
