THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala is apt to become the chief minister, said NSS General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair. He was responding to the media for inviting Ramesh Chennithala to NSS headquarters.

Chennithala was invited to the NSS headquarters as he is a member of the Nair community, whom everyone respects. I understood that the political stance taken at a certain time was foolish. However, Sukumaran Nair clarified that he has no opinion that Chennithala is the only one apt to become the chief minister.

Chennithala's arrival at the NSS headquarters to inaugurate the public meeting as part of the Mannam Jayanti celebrations was widely discussed then. This was Chennithala's visit to Perunna after 11 years. Other Congress leaders and BJP leaders were not invited to the function. The NSS invited Chennithala after Attorney General Venkitaramani, who was earlier scheduled to be the inaugurator, withdrew.

Chennithala had in his speech said that he considered it a privilege to be the chief guest at the Mannam Jayanti celebrations. He was extremely happy to be a part of the grand event. Chennithala said that he was deeply grateful and loved by the NSS leadership and its chief G Sukumaran Nair for inviting him. Chennithala added that when he faced a crisis during his education period, it was the NSS who helped him.
