KOTTAYAM: A police officer seriously hurt in a clash that broke out in front of a thattukada (roadside eatery) in Ettumanoor Monday morning, succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified as CPO Shyam Prasad (44), a driver of Kottayam West Police Station. He is a native of Neendoor in Kottayam. Shyam was seriously injured in the clash that broke out in the eatery at night. He was then taken to the hospital at 2 am but died at 5 am this morning.

Jibin George (27) of Perumbaikad, an accused in several cases, reached the eatery and created an uproar. Shyam Prasad, who was there at that time, questioned his act. In a fit of rage, Jibin brutally beat the cop. Shyam, who collapsed, was immediately taken to the hospital by the locals, but his life could not be saved. Following the incident, the person who was with Jibin fled from the place. Jibin George was taken into police custody.

Another violent incident occurred in Kollam a few days ago when a sub inspector was hit by a car. When the police arrived after being informed that a car was parked in Thangasseri bus bay and public drinking was taking place, the accused started the vehicle and tried to hit the cop. The accused tried to harm sub-inspector Saltress of Pallithottam police station. The vehicle hit the cop and injured his knee. The accused identified as Alin Vijayan (32) of Pallithottam and Akhil Das (32) of Thangasseri were arrested by the Pallithottam police.
