KOZHIKODE: One injured after a private bus lost control and overturned near the Arayidathupalam overbridge yesterday, has succumbed to his injuries. The dead is Muhammed Sanih of Kommeri. He died while undergoing treatment at the Baby Memorial Hospital in Kozhikode. 54 people injured in the accident sought treatment yesterday. Of these, 12 are in Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.
The bus, which was crowded with students, hit a post on the divider and overturned. It was a relief that there were no other vehicles on the bridge where many vehicles pass at the time of the accident. The police station and the hospital which were nearby made the rescue operations easier. The Vertex bus, which was going from Palayam bus stand to Mukkam, met with the accident at around 4.10 pm yesterday.
The bike, which was overtaking a car coming towards Kozhikode, hit the bus. While applying the brake to avoid hitting the bike, the bus lost control and hit a post on the nearby divider and overturned. The biker fell in front of a car nearby. He sustained serious injuries, including to his thighbone. The bike was completely destroyed and the front of the bus was completely damaged.
If other vehicles had come at the time of the accident, it would have been a major accident. The bus did not overturn due to the impact of the collision, which helped reduce the injuries to the passengers. Immediately after the accident, the police and fire brigade reached the spot and carried out rescue operations and shifted the injured to the hospital. The overturned bus was removed from the spot and traffic was restored by 6.30 pm.
