NEW DELHI: The Delhi police said that they have seized Rs 5 lakh from an employee of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi Marlena's office. A video of the incident has also surfaced. The video shows an employee named Gaurav standing with a bag full of cash. He admitted to the police that he works in the Delhi government's multi-tasking department.
Gaurav, a resident of Faridabad, claimed that the money was related to the sale of a house. He stated that after selling his old house, he was planning to buy a new one and was carrying the cash for that purpose. He also claimed to have all the necessary documents to prove it.
Upon examining Gaurav's phone, the police found that he had been in contact with Pankaj, the Chief Minister's personal assistant. According to the police, the two had discussed details of various wards in Delhi and how much money was to be given to whom and where using code words. The police said that they took Gaurav into custody after receiving a tip-off and that another person named Ajit, who is linked to the Chief Minister's office and works as a driver, has also been taken into custody.
However, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has denied the allegations, calling it a conspiracy by the BJP to defame the party, especially on the day of elections. AAP further accused the BJP of distributing money to the people of Delhi.
