PATHANAMTHITTA: Departmental action has been initiated against the police officers involved in the lathi charge on a wedding group in Pathanamthitta. Pathanamthitta SI S Jinu has been transferred to the SP office. Further actions will be decided by the DIG. The District Police Chief has submitted a detailed report of the incident to the DIG. Additionally, a case has been filed against the police officers based on the victims' statements, including that of Sithara, who was assaulted.

The Special Branch report had stated that the lathi charge by the police on the wedding group was a serious lapse on the part of the SI. The wedding group from Kottayam was returning after attending a reception when they were attacked by the police. They were attacked by SI Jinu and his team from the Pathanamthitta police station. The police team arrived at the spot searching for individuals who had caused trouble in front of a bar.

20 people were travelling in the group’s vehicle. Mundakayam native Sithara, her husband Sreejith and relative Shijin sustained injuries. People who were standing outside the vehicle were also beaten up by the police. Injured people sought treatment at the General Hospital. Bar staff had called the police, reporting that a group of people had demanded alcohol when the bar was closing and had refused to leave. The police arrived to find those who had caused trouble at the bar.

"While returning after attending a wedding reception in Adoor, we stopped the vehicle on the roadside to rest. After some time, the police arrived at the spot and chased us away," Sithara said.
