KOLKATA: A police guard was found dead with a bullet injury on the premises of the civil court. The incident took place in Dalhousie area of West Bengal. The police guard has been identified as Gopal Nath.


His body was found on a chair near the stairs on the ground floor of the civil court. He had a bullet injury on his forehead, a senior police officer said. The body was found around 7 am today. Gopal Nath's 9 mm service pistol was found lying near the body. It is believed that Gopal Nath may have shot himself with it.


Police said that an investigation has been launched into the incident and that all angles, including suicide or murder, will be considered. It is reported that Gopal Nath had been suffering from depression for some time. The police added that necessary steps have been taken to collect CCTV footage of the area and that a forensic team has reached the area. A case has been registered at the Hare Street police station in the incident. His body has been shifted to the hospital for postmortem.
