BEIJING: A teenager sold her mother's jewellery worth Rs. 1.16 crore to buy a lip stud and an earring worth Rs. 680. The incident took place in Shanghai, China. The girl sold the jewellery without her mother's knowledge.

The case came to light after the girl's mother, Wang, filed a complaint with the Wanli Police Station of the Putuo Public Security Bureau. The girl, identified as Li, stole bracelets, necklaces, and jewellery studded with gemstones from her mother. The girl, not knowing that they were high-value jewellery, sold them for Rs 680. Wang told the police that her daughter had stolen them and that she did not know why she had stolen them.

She saw someone wearing a lip stud, and she felt that she too wanted to wear one. That's why she stole her mother's jewellery, according to Li. Li told the police that she bought a lip stud worth Rs. 340 and an earring worth Rs. 340 with the money she got from selling the jewellery. The police found the shop where the jewellery was sold and immediately recovered all the jewellery.

After the incident came to light, many people shared the news. There were also many critical comments. Comments like, "Why didn't such a wealthy mother give her child some pocket money?" and "If she stole so much to buy a lip stud, you should take good care of that child from now on."
