THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There was a scuffle and uproar at the NGO Association State Council meeting over the office bearer election. State General Secretary AM Jaffar Khan declared himself the new president of the organization at the meeting held at Panakkad Hall in Nandavanam. The faction supporting the current president Chavara Jayakumar opposed this, which led to the scuffle. Meanwhile, the meeting began under the chairmanship of Chavara Jayakumar. With this, the faction led by Jaffar Khan created a ruckus. They then boycotted the meeting and left.

A meeting of state officebearers, district presidents and secretaries was held in Vellayambalam this morning. The meeting unanimously approved the decision of the KPCC sub-committee to find office bearers from branch committees to the state council through a democratic election process. The state council meeting was held at Panakkad Hall after this, to report on the matter.

The official leadership had not decided to hold elections at the state council meeting. However, the other side alleges that General Secretary Jaffar Khan spread the word that the election was the main agenda of the meeting. General Secretary M Liju and G Subodh, who are in charge of the organization, had attended the meeting as KPCC observers.

Subcommittee did not accept the proposal

The other faction accused the group led by Jaffar Khan of not accepting the guidelines put forward by the KPCC subcommittee for the association election. The subcommittee had given suggestions such as implementing 20% reservation for women at all levels of the organization, seeking the opinion of senior party leaders before taking a final decision, not giving the right to a person to work in the same position for more than a maximum of three years, and eliminating the tendency to refuse promotion to gazetted rank in order to continue in the organization's leadership.
