KOCHI: The High Court has granted anticipatory bail to BJP leader P.C. George in a hate speech case. The Erattupetta police had registered a case against P.C. George for his anti-Muslim remarks during a channel discussion on January 6. Although he had sought anticipatory bail in the case, the Kottayam Additional Sessions Court had earlier rejected his plea. He then approached the High Court. The anticipatory bail application was postponed four times and was finally granted today. The court clarified that he is a senior political leader and should be careful. The anticipatory bail was granted preventing his arrest pending the consideration of the case.

The Erattupetta Youth League Mandal Committee had filed a complaint with the police regarding the remarks P.C. George made during the channel discussion. A case was registered against George under the sections of promoting religious enmity and inciting violence. The court has sought an explanation from the police on George's plea.
