NEW DELHI: Half an hour has passed since the counting began in the Delhi assembly elections, and BJP has already crossed the majority mark. If the early trend is a sign, then the saffron party is on its way to wresting power in the national capital after 27 years. BJP is now leading in 48 while Aam Aadmi Party in 19 seats. Congress is meanwhile leading in three seats.
According to reports, the BJP has made significant inroads into minority sections of Delhi. According to the first trend, current Chief Minister Atishi Marleena and Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia are trailing. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal is leading by a wafer with a margin of 200 votes. BJP meanwhile has attained an all-time high vote share in Delhi of 48 per cent.
Meanwhile, Kailash Gahlot, former minister of Transport and Environment who joined BJP from AAP is leading. In the last assembly elections in Delhi in 2020, AAP had won 62 seats while BJP had to restrict with just eight seats. Minding this, the saffron party's current lead in 48 seats is a terrific result nonetheless.
