NEW DELHI: It is a tough day at the office for the upper echelons of AAP after the Delhi election results on Saturday. Three-time Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia have suffered a humiliating defeat in the national capital. As a saving grace, incumbent Chief Minister Atishi Marlena won the Kalkaji constituency after trailing during the best part of the counting.
Kejriwal, who contested from the New Delhi assembly constituency, managed to get only 21,561 votes. BJP's Parvesh Sahib Singh won the constituency with 24,743 votes.
Sisodia who contested from the Jangpura constituency got 30724 votes. Here BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah won by securing 31593 votes. Atishi defeated BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri by nearly a thousand votes.
At the same time, by leading in 47 seats, the BJP has confirmed its return to the capital city after 27 years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet party workers at the BJP headquarters at 7 pm tonight. BJP has already started talks of government formation in Delhi, barely hours after the early trends surfaced.
BJP National President JP Nadda held a discussion with Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Saturday at noon. Sachdeva while responding to the media said that the BJP leadership will pick the chief minister and played down talks about the party already fixing on giant slayer Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma as the new Delhi CM.
