KOTTARAKKARA: A young boy died after falling into a canal while being chased by a stray dog in Kottarakkara. A.S. Yadav, 8, son of Aneesh, of Aneesh Bhavan in Nirappuvila, Sadanandapuram, died in the incident that occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. Yadav was a third-grade student at Ummannur School.

Yadav was with his grandmother, Omana, dropping off his cousin Sivananda at her home. To cross the canal from the house, they had to use a footbridge with electricity posts. Yadav, who was walking ahead, began to run when he saw a dog approaching. He fell into the canal from the footbridge, which lacked a handrail.

Omana's screams alerted people nearby, who rushed to the scene and began a search. The fire force arrived later and the child was eventually found in the canal. He died while being transported to the hospital. His mother is Shari, and he has a four-year-old sister named Krishna.
