KOZHIKODE: The accused in the incident where nine-year-old girl Drishna was left into coma after being hit by a car in Vadakara, has been arrested. Shajeel, the owner of the car, was arrested from Coimbatore airport. A lookout notice was issued for him. He will be handed over to the Vadakara police. Drishna, who was injured in the accident, is still undergoing treatment. The car was found last December, ten months after the accident.


Police said Shajeel, who was driving the car K L 18 R 1846 at high speed, hit Drishna and her grandmother while they were crossing the road. The accused, who modified the vehicle after the accident, fled abroad. The turning point in the case was when Shajeel filed an insurance claim months ago. He obtained insurance claiming that his car had suffered damages after hitting a wall.


The accident occurred on February 17, 2024, at Chorode in Vadakara on the national highway. Drishna and her grandmother were crossing the road when the car hit them. The girl's grandmother died on the spot. The girl is still undergoing treatment with serious injuries. The special investigation team examined hundreds of CCTV footage to find the car that crashed. Old footage was re-examined. Statements were taken from several people and information was sought from workshops. A case of culpable homicide has been filed against Shajeel.
