ALUVA: Attempt to set a woman on fire by pouring petrol on her in the middle of the road. The incident took place near UC College. The Aluva police arrested the accused on the complaint of Tessi (39), a native of Choondy, who ran to a nearby house and escaped. Ali (53), a native of Aluva, Muppathadam, who runs an Akshaya Center in the Kadungallur Panchayat office premises, was arrested. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against him.

The incident took place on Tuesday morning at around 10.30 am in an empty area on UC College Snehatheeram Road. Tessi, who was working as a domestic worker in a house on Snehatheeram Road, was going to her workplace on a scooter when the accused, who came on a bike, stopped her and poured petrol on her. By the time Ali took a matchbox from his pocket, Tessi had run and taken shelter in a nearby house. With this, the accused escaped on a bike. The accused then spent time in Perumbavoor and Kuruppampady before reaching Aluva, where he was caught by the police.

It is said that the reason for the violence was a dispute over a financial transaction. Meanwhile, the woman and her husband went to the police station in the evening and stated that they had no complaints.
