THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: P C Chacko has resigned from his post of chief of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). It is reported that he has submitted his resignation letter to national president Sharad Pawar. The resignation letter was handed over yesterday. The resignation is following the intense infighting within the party. It is reported that he will continue as the national working president. The dispute over Minister A K Saseendran's ministerial post had caused fissures in the party. The Saseendran faction had abstained from the state office bearers' meeting held on February 6. The Saseendran faction has informed that they will not accept Chacko's leadership.

Those supporting Minister A K Saseendran had earlier started collecting signatures demanding his removal from the state president's post. They also claim that they have the support of Kuttanad MLA Thomas K Thomas in this regard. The signature collection was carried out by giving the responsibility of the districts to trusted leaders who support the minister and the MLA. After collecting signatures, it was decided to forward the complaint to National President Sharad Pawar and Working President Supriya Sule next week through national secretary Sathish Thonnakkal. In the meanwhile, Chacko has resigned now.
