CHERTHALA: Police have taken the housewife's husband, Soni, into custody on suspicion that her death was a murder. Cherthala Muttam native VC Saji (48) died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. The body was exhumed from the St. Mary's Ferona Church cemetery. The body will be subjected to a postmortem at Alappuzha Medical College Hospital.

The daughter had filed a complaint with the Cherthala police alleging that there was a mystery surrounding the death. Following this, Saji's husband, Soni, was taken into custody. The daughter has alleged in her complaint that her mother died due to beatings by her father. The complaint also states that on the night of January 8, Soni beat Saji and forcibly hit her head on the wall. Saji was then admitted to the hospital. She was treated in the hospital for about a month. The police said that further action would be taken only after questioning Soni.
