THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The mystery surrounding the death of a two-year-old girl in Balaramapuram is being unraveled. The police have confirmed that Harikumar, the child's uncle is the only accused in the case. The police had revealed yesterday that Harikumar had confessed to the crime.
Police said Harikumar had an illegal relationship with his sister Sreethu, the mother of the child murdered. Sreethu had gone to Harikumar's room on the night of the incident. As the child was crying, she had to go back. The police have clarified that this is what provoked the accused to kill the child.
Devendu, daughter of Sreethu and Sreejith, who lived in a rented house in Kottukalkonam, was killed on January 30. Harikumar (25), Sreethu's younger brother was later arrested by the police. Meanwhile, Sreethu was arrested in a financial fraud case. A case had earlier been registered against Sreethu on a complaint of swindling money after promising job in the devaswom board. Sreethu introduced herself as a high-ranking official in the board. However, the police clarified that Sreethu had not worked in the board even on a contract basis.
Following Sreethu's arrest, the truth about the murder of the two-year-old girl came to light when Harikumar was taken into custody again and questioned. Harikumar's custody period had ended yesterday. He was produced in the Neyyattinkara court. He has been remanded in judicial custody again.
