NEW DELHI: A US C-17 military plane carrying 119 Indian illegal immigrants landed at Amritsar airport tonight. Another plane carrying Indians will arrive tomorrow. The arrival of 104 people in handcuffs and chains on the 5th of this month sparked controversy.

Of the 119 people who arrived yesterday, 67 are from Punjab. 33 are from Haryana. Those from other states include 8 from Gujarat, 3 from UP, 2 each from Goa, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, and one each from Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has come out against the deportees being brought to Amritsar. He alleged that the Centre is defaming Punjab.

Punjab BJP state vice president Fatehjang Singh Bajwa said that the chief minister is insulting Punjab by politicising the issue. The state should say what action has been taken against the agents who sent people illegally.

Pradesh Congress Committee president Pratap Singh Bajwa also said that the chief minister is absconding without fulfilling his promise to stop the migration of Punjabis.
