KOTTAYAM: District Police Chief A Shahul Hameed announced that the error in the FIR regarding the brutal ragging at Kottayam Government Nursing College will be corrected and a report will be submitted to the magistrate.

“When I saw the Kerala Kaumudi news published yesterday, I noticed that the year of the assault was different. It could be a clerical error. An investigation closing all loopholes is being conducted so that the accused will get maximum punishment. Arrests were made immediately after receiving the complaint. The objects used for the brutality were recovered. Four more complaints have been received. There are no more accused. The allegation of political interference to save the accused belonging to the Left student organization is not being taken at face value,” the SP said.

Clerical error: Minister Vasavan

“The Kerala Kaumudi news that the year was changed in the FIR has come to my attention. This is not to save the accused but is seen as a typing error,” said Minister V.N. Vasavan. “The police investigation is satisfactory. Those who showed such brutality should be punished to the maximum extent. Those who showed such cruelty should not become nurses in the future," he said.

Serious lapse: Thiruvanchoor

Former Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that the change in the year of the crime in the FIR was serious. "The accused were remanded without being taken into custody. Despite all this cruelty, the anti-ragging committee has not been convened. The move is to save the accused with CPM links." Thiruvanchoor said

''The FIR cannot be changed. The mistake in place and time is a serious lapse. It cannot be taken lightly by saying it is a clerical error. The fact that the video was checked and not included in the FIR is also suspicious.
