KASARGOD: There is a move to grant parole to the accused in the murder case of Youth Congress activists Kripesh and Sarathlal. The eighth accused Subheesh and 15th accused Surendran serving life imprisonment in Kannur Central Jail, have applied for the parole.
It is heard that prison authorities have sought a police report on the application filed by the accused. The Kochi CBI court sentenced the 14 accused on January 3. In addition to life imprisonment, the accused who applied for parole were also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
Kripesh and Sarathlal were murdered at Periya Kalyot on February 17, 2019 at 7.45 pm. A special team of the local police first and later the crime branch investigated the case. Later, the CBI took over the investigation of the case after the parents of Sarathlal and Kripesh approached the high court. The investigation was conducted by a CBI team led by DySP Ananthakrishnan of the Thiruvananthapuram unit. The trial began in the CBI court in February 2023.
