THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have found actor Siddique guilty in the rape case of an actress. The charge sheet said the woman was invited to the Mascot Hotel in Thiruvananthapuram with bad intention under the pretext of discussing a film.
The police had earlier mentioned in the report submitted to the court that Siddique sexually abused the woman after inviting her to the hotel. The same has been stated in the charge sheet. The special investigation team also asserted that there are witnesses to the actress revealing the rape even before the Hema Committee report was released.
The police had pointed that when the actress said she would reveal the incident, Siddique threatened her by saying that no one would believe her as she has no profile and that her status was zero when compared to him. The charge sheet will be submitted to the court as soon as the permission of the crime branch chief is received.
The special investigation team confirmed as true the rape complaint that led to Siddique's resignation from the post of general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). The complaint alleged that the actress was sexually abused on January 28, 2016. Siddique had invited the actress, who had come to the preview of the movie 'Sukhamaittirikate', to the hotel. The charge sheet said there are witness statements and digital evidence that Siddique had invited the actress and her family to watch the preview, the actress coming to the hotel and Siddique staying there that day.
Siddique's main argument to deny the allegation was that the complaint was filed after eight years. The actor had argued that his name was not in any of her Facebook posts where the woman had made similar allegations. Following the rape, the woman sought treatment in Kochi. The woman had disclosed about the rape to this doctor on the same day. The investigation team explained that the doctor had given a statement. The special team completed the investigation with the belief that the cases taken up following the Hema Committee report were cases with strong evidence. Since he has anticipatory bail from the Supreme Court, Siddique, who had appeared before the police earlier, was arrested and released on bail with conditions.
