AMRITSAR: The third US military flight carrying illegal Indian immigrants landed at the Amritsar International Airport on Sunday. It brought 112 people. Meanwhile, the manner in which the Indians were brought back is once again drawing criticism. The Sikh immigrants, who were among the immigrants were brought to India with their turbans removed has sparked fresh controversies. The immigrants chained to their seats and handcuffed, had previously drawn widespread criticism.

The flight that arrived yesterday had 31 Punjabis. There were 44 from Haryana and 33 from Gujarat. A deported immigrant had revealed that they were not allowed to wear turbans when they boarded a US Air Force plane. He said that they removed their turbans after being arrested in the US. The Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee has come out in strong protest against the removal of the turbans of the believers. Committee members had given turbans to those who arrived at the Amritsar airport.

Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee General Secretary Gurcharan Singh Grewal condemned the incident. It is a disappointing incident. Turbans are part of the Sikh religion. He also said that the issue will be raised with the US authorities. Footage of people arriving from the US completing the procedures at the Amritsar airport without turbans is being circulated on social media.
