Tomichan Mulakupadam said Pulimurugan was the most profitable film in his film career. He said his response was after noticing some people dragging the film into unnecessary controversies.
Although the expense of the film was more than the budget planned, Pulimurugan was a film that gave him reasonable profit and financial security. A loan of Rs 2 crore was taken from the Kottayam branch of Kerala Financial Corporation, for the film. He clarified that the loan was fully repaid in December 2016 itself.
His words
‘The film that gave me the most pride and success in my film career as a producer is Pulimurugan starring Mohanlal in the lead role and directed by Vysakh. I am still very proud of being able to make the film that brought the glitter of a hundred crores in the history of Malayalam cinema for the first time in the history of Malayalam cinema and of becoming a part of the history of Malayalam films through it.
However, I noticed some people coming forward dragging that film into some unnecessary controversies.
Everything they say in it is totally baseless. Although it was a film that cost more than the planned budget and time, Pulimurugan was a film that brought me a fair profit and financial security. I took a loan of Rs 2 crore from the Kottayam branch of Kerala Financial Corporation for this film. The loan was completely repaid in December 2016 itself. I paid more than Rs 3 crore as income tax for this film. If I had to pay that much income tax, it can be understood that this film must have brought me a fair profit.
Though I produced more films after that, the success of Pulimurugan has a big role. Pulimurugan is a film that did a total business of over Rs 100 crore in just less than three weeks, even before its release abroad, nine years ago.
Therefore, I request the esteemed audience to reject the false allegations and untrue propaganda about it with the contempt it deserves. Mulakupadam Films will continue to produce excellent films.’
