THRISSUR: A tribal man was trampled to death by a wild elephant in the Thamaravellachal forest area Wednesday morning. The dead is Prabhakaran aged 52. Prabhakaran, his son Prasobh and his son-in-law Lijo had gone to the forest area to collect tapioca. His son-in-law first came before the wild elephant and when he ran, Prabhakaran came before the animal.

Forest guards, police and locals reached the spot on being informed. Thamaravellachal is a tribal area completely adjacent to the forest. It is part of the Ollur constituency.

Prabhakaran leaves behind his wife Sheeba and children Prabhitha, Prathibha and Pravita.

Many lives were lost in wild elephant attacks in the state. A Tamil Nadu native who had gone to the shop in Noolpuzha, Wayanad was also trampled to death by a wild elephant. The dead is 45-year-old Manu. The tragic incident happened on February 10. Manu's wife Chandrika, who was with him, had a narrow escape then.
