DUBAI: India began their quest for the ICC Champions Trophy with a commanding win over Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy Group A match. The men in blue won the game by six wickets.

Batting prodigy and Indian vice-captain Shubman Gill remained unbeaten with a century of 101(129). This is Gill's second consecutive century in ODI cricket. In the last match of the ODI series against England, Gill had crossed the three-figure mark.

Chasing a target of 229 runs, India got off to a good start with captain Rohit Sharma scoring 41 runs off 36 balls. The captain was dismissed in the 10th over and then came Virat Kohli to the crease. Kohli returned to the pavilion after scoring just 22 runs. Shreyas Iyer 15(17) and Axar Patel 8(12) did find their footing and stumbled early on.

With the score at 144 for four in 30.1 overs, KL Rahul came to the crease along with Gill. India still needed 85 more runs from 119 balls. However, the duo with grit and perseverance coursed the game to a fine finish in favour of the Blues.

KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 41 (47). Rishad Hussain took two wickets and Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman took one wicket each for Bangladesh.
