LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Police has taken strict action against those who sold videos of women bathing at the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on social media. DIG Vaibhav Krishna told the media that those who buy such videos will also be arrested. He said that 18 social media accounts related to the incident have been identified, and the police team is closely monitoring social media. What they did is a criminal offence under the IT Act. The DIG said that those who sell such videos as well as those who buy them will be arrested.
The social media monitoring team of Uttar Pradesh Police found that some platforms were uploading videos of women bathing and changing clothes at the Kumbh Mela. The police said that a case has been registered at the Kotwali Kumbh Mela police station in the incident, and legal action has been initiated. A case was registered on February 17 against an Instagram account that shared videos of women pilgrims. The police also said that they have sought information from Meta in the matter. A case was registered yesterday against a Telegram channel that sold similar videos.
More than 50 crore people, including prominent figures from politics, business, and film industries, have already participated in the Mahakumbh Mela. The Kumbh Mela, which began on January 13, will end on February 26.
