It is believed that there was a misunderstanding that all of them were men because she lost consciousness.

Sunil's wife Deepa (Kala), children Akhil, Akhila and relative Rajesh of Meleputhanveetil, Aralumoodu, Thiruvananthapuram, carried out the attack and robbery. Within hours, the main accused, Rajesh (36), was taken into custody from the Channelkara house in Chaliyodu, Thiruvananthapuram. He was taken to Mampuzhakari for collecting evidence. The investigation is ongoing for the others. Three and a half pavans of gold, Rs. 36,000, a mobile phone, a bronze uruli, a lamp and an ATM card were stolen.

Police say

Krishnamma was unaware that Akhila had arrived at their house on Tuesday night. Deepa opened the kitchen door for Akhil and Rajesh, who had arrived from Thiruvananthapuram on a scooter at around 2 am on Wednesday. To mislead the police, she removed the hook on the top of the door. Rajesh slapped Krishnamma in the face. Akhil and Akhila tied her hands and feet together. Deepa stole the money and gold from the cupboard. After the incident, Akhil took Deepa and Akhila to Changanassery bus stand on a scooter. After returning, he took Rajesh and went to Thiruvananthapuram on a scooter.

Rajesh was trapped by a slip of the tongue

A police team led by Ramankari CI V. Jayakumar reached Deepa's house in Thiruvananthapuram early on Wednesday morning. Deepa's seven-year-old disabled son and 78-year-old mother were there. The police told the locals that Deepa had met with an accident and had come to collect details. It was noticed that Rajesh, who had arrived there at this time, said, "They had come to search for money and gold that she had stolen from somewhere." Since police didn't reveal information about the burglary, Rajesh's factual statement was what gave him off. He was taken into custody after it was confirmed that Rajesh's phone was in Mambuzhakkari at the time of the incident.
