KANNUR: The CPM activists in Thalassery released one from custody after attacking the police. The incident happened during the festival at Manoli Kavil in Thalassery. The police then registered a case against 55 CPM activists involved in the incident.
A clash had broken out the other day between the activists of CPM and BJP during the festival. The police arrived to take into custody a CPM activist involved in the incident. Meanwhile, the police took into custody a CPM activist who created a ruckus in an inebriated condition. The activists, who prevented the police from taking the person into custody, locked the gate of the Kavu and left with the activist.
Only about ten policemen were present there at that time. Thiruvangad West Local Secretary Jithun and others attacked the police and left with the accused. The FIR said the activists threatened the police saying that if they act against them, no policeman would be in Thalassery. One person was taken into custody in connection with the incident and his arrest was later registered. The uniform of the cops was torn when they tried to intervene in the clash between the activists of BJP and CPM.
