NEW DELHI: The Railway Ministry has sent a notice to remove the footage of the stampede that led to the death of passengers at the Delhi railway station from social media. A notice has been sent to remove 285 links containing the footage of the accident from the 'X' platform.
The notice was sent to 'X' on the 17th of this month citing the ethical issues of the footage being circulated on social media. It has been directed to take action within 36 hours. The notice states that sharing such footage affects the functioning of the Indian Railways and is against the X's policies.
Eighteen people, including women and children, died in the stampede that occurred when two trains to Prayagraj reached the station. The Railways had announced financial assistance to the victims and their families. The families of the deceased will receive Rs 10 lakh each. Rs 2.5 lakh each for those seriously injured in the accident and Rs 1 lakh each for those with minor injuries.
