THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSU State Vice President P. Muhammad Shammas has filed a complaint to the Vigilance Director against P.P. Divya, who was the President of Kannur District Panchayat, for benami property transactions and giving contracts worth crores to a benami company. He went to the Vigilance headquarters and submitted the complaint to Director Yogesh Gupta along with documents of the transactions and other evidence of corruption.
P.Mohammed Shammas had earlier released documents of contracts amounting to crores of rupees that had been given to a benami company called Carton India Alliance through SILK, a public sector undertaking and District Nirmithi Kendra. There were also documents pertaining to four acres of land allegedly bought by Muhammed Asif, the director of Carton India, and PP Divya's husband, VP Ajith, in Palakkayam Thattu in Kannur.
Mohammed Shammas alleged in a later press conference that there was also corruption behind the purchase of 49 cents of land by the District Panchayat near the Kannur District Hospital for Rs 2 crore 40 lakhs. The land included in CRZ-2 is near the defence zone. The land purchased for more than the fair price is now lying unused.
Mohammed Shammas stated that Divya, who vowed to pursue legal action upon the release of documents and evidence against her, has since remained silent for over a month.
