KAYAMKULAM: Police have arrested the husband after it was revealed that he murdered the housewife who was found hanging in Kayamkulam.

The Kayamkulam police have arrested the husband, Sreevalsan Pillai (58), in connection with the hanging of Rajeshwari Amma (48). The incident took place at 4 am on the 20th in the kitchen of the rented house of Padma Vilasam at Pullikkanakku. It was only after a detailed investigation into the case registered for unnatural death that it became clear that it was a murder.

What the Police say about the incident: The couple had talked about committing suicide due to financial obligations. Sreevalsan Pillai convinced his wife that he would also hang himself after Rajeshwari Amma hanged herself. After this, Sreevalsan Pillai tied one end of the sari to an iron rod on the roof and then put the other end around his wife's neck. After the noose tightened and Rajeshwari Amma died, Sreevalsan Pillai escaped on a scooter. The police caught him from a toddy shop at Vetticode.

The accused was arrested by a team led by CI Arun Shah, SIs Suresh, Vinod, ASI Jayalakshmi, and CPOs Reji, Sajeev Kumar, Limu Mathew, Regin, Arun, Divya, and Athulya under the supervision of Kayamkulam DySP Babukuttan. Sreevalsan Pillai has been remanded.
