THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government's decision to hike the monthly salaries of PSC members has been met with dissatisfaction by the CPI. CPI State Secretary Binoy Vishwam expressed his discontent publicly, stating that it is more reasonable to give additional benefits to those who earn lower salaries rather than increase the pay for those who already earn higher wages.

The party's affiliated organizations, AIYF and AITUC, had already raised objections earlier. Speaking in support of the ASHA workers who have been protesting in front of the Secretariat for the past 15 days, Binoy Vishwam criticized the government's actions, particularly pointing out shortcomings in their decisions. He also noted that the decision to raise the salaries of the PSC members and increase the travel allowances for KV Thomas, the state's representative in Delhi, was made without consultation with allies.

The AITUC State Council recently demanded the cancellation of the significant salary and benefits hike for the PSC Chairman and members. They argued that while the government denies fair wage increases for workers in various sectors due to financial constraints, it is inappropriate to announce extra benefits for PSC members. AITUC also criticized the decision, stating it was unjust and incompatible with the Left government's principles. AIYF also protested against the move. The current PSC board includes three CPI members, while the CPM has fourteen members on the board.
