BENGALURU: A young doctor's body was recovered after she went missing in a river during her vacation trip. The harrowing incident took place last Tuesday in the Tungabhadra river in the Koppal district of Karnataka. The body of Ananya Mohan Rao (26), a doctor at a private hospital in Telangana, was recovered last day.
Ananya had come to visit Hampi and other nearby places with her friends. They lived in a homestay in Sanapur village of Koppal district. It was on Tuesday night that the team reached Tungabhadra River. While her friends got into filming the video, Ananya jumped off a cliff into the river. The high current of the river swept Ananya instantly. The youngster who knew to swim was thus taken aback. Her panicked friends then alerted the fire brigade and Ananya’s body was recovered two days later.
The search was carried out with the help of drone cameras and local fishermen. As part of this, the flow of water in Tungabhadra Dam was also reduced. The body was recovered by divers from JSW. Meanwhile, the terrifying visuals of friends encouraging Ananya to jump and the later scenes of the doctor trying to swim back to safety emerged.
Ananya is a close relative of former Congress MLA from Telangana. After the incident, the district administration banned jumping from the cliff in the area.
