HYDERABAD: A part of the tunnel under construction in Telangana collapsed leaving seven workers trapped inside. The workers were on a mission to stop leakage in a part of the tunnel behind Srisailam dam.
The accident happened around 10 o'clock this morning. There were 50 workers in the tunnel at the time of the incident. 43 of them have been brought out safely. A portion of the SLBC tunnel at the 14th km point collapsed. The tunnel is located at Amrabad in Nagarkurnool district. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy responded to the incident admitting that many have suffered injuries. However, the exact numbers are yet to arrive.
District Collector and Fire Department officials have currently reached the spot. Irrigation department officials have arrived and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar has taken off in a helicopter to monitor the accident site.
