KOLLAM: Statements of the accused in the incident where a telephone post was found placed across the railway track in Kundara have been released. Rajesh, a native of Kundara Ilampallur, and Arun, a native of Perumpuzha Palapoyka, have been arrested in the incident. CCTV footage of two youths dragging the telephone post across the railway track had come out. The accused were arrested during an investigation focused on this. They are being questioned under the leadership of Kollam Rural SP Sabu Mathews.
During the interrogation, the accused revealed the reason for taking the telephone post to the railway track. The accused told the police that their intention was to cut the post, make it into scrap and sell it for money, and that is why they took the post to the track. The statement said that they took the post to the track with the understanding that the post would be cut when the train passed by.
However, despite this statement of the accused, the police are investigating the possibility of sabotage in the incident. The police said that the accused had been involved in criminal cases before. One person is accused in the case of attacking policemen in Kundara. There are five criminal cases against the second person, Rural SP said.
The telephone post was noticed across the railway tracks at around 2 am today. It was a passenger who saw the post. Then the Ezhukon police were informed. Police officials arrived and removed the post. After the police left, someone placed the post across the railway tracks again. A major tragedy was averted as it was discovered in time.
