THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Permanent Lok Adalat has imposed a fine of Rs 3.15 lakh on a doctor in the incident where a surgical mop got stuck in the uterus during a caesarean section. Dr. Suja Augustine, a gynaecologist at Neyyattinkara General Hospital, was sentenced. The verdict was given by a bench comprising Adalat Chairman P. Sasidharan and members V.N. Radhakrishnan and Dr. Mohammed Sheriff. The court did not accept the doctor's argument that the mistake was made by the nurse. The fine is made up of compensation of Rs 3 lakh, medical expenses of Rs 10,000, and court expenses of Rs 5,000. S. Gopakumar, who appeared for the complainant, informed that the amount has been ordered to be paid to Jeethu at J.J Cottage, Amaravila, Plavila. 24-year-old Jeethu underwent a caesarean section on July 2, 2022.
