ROME: The health of Pope Francis has deteriorated significantly, says report. According to a statement released by the Vatican late last night, the Pope experienced severe breathing difficulties, and medical examinations revealed anaemia and a drop in platelet count. Pope Francis had been undergoing treatment for pneumonia affecting both lungs.

The Vatican stated that while his condition worsened compared to the previous day, he remained conscious and was seated in a wheelchair. However, doctors confirmed that he is not yet out of danger and recommended that he remain hospitalized for at least another week. The Pope has instructed his doctors not to withhold any information regarding his health condition.

Doctors are also concerned about the possibility of the infection spreading into the bloodstream. Pope Francis was admitted to Gemelli Hospital in Rome on December 14 due to bronchitis. He was diagnosed with pneumonia following further tests on Tuesday.
