ALAPPUZHA: With only two months left before the expiry of the rank list, appointments to not even half of the civil police officer posts in the state's seven battalions have been fulfilled. Only 27 percent of the appointments have been made. The reason is that the vacancies have not been reported to the PSC. Although the rank list of 6647 people was published on April 15 last year, an advice memo was issued to only 1836 people.

The vacancies were reported at the end of October. The first batch joined the job in January. The new list was prepared after the candidates staged a protest in front of the secretariat against the non-appointment from the previous CPO list. However, not only were there no appointments from it but steps were taken to prepare a new rank list.

The candidates are protesting strongly against the non-appointment from the PSC rank list even as the state police force is facing a shortage of personnel. No new vacancies have been reported even though it has been six months since the civil police officer and women civil police officer rank lists have been published. The Rank Holders Association alleges that the officials at the police headquarters are behaving completely irresponsibly towards those who come to inquire about reporting vacancies.
