KOTTAYAM: BJP leader P C George is in the custody of the police in the case of hate speech during a television debate. The Erattupetta Munsif Court has ordered to keep him in custody till 6 pm.


Although he had informed to come to Erattupetta police station for questioning, P C George, who surrendered at the Erattupetta court, went ahead in the case with the aim of getting bail. However, the court released him in police custody. Following the court's decision, PC George was taken from here for medical examination. He will be produced in the court again at 6 pm today. The court will decide on his bail after considering the police report.


The court had considered the case against P C George this afternoon. The police had submitted the report of the cases registered against PC to the court. PC George reached the court along with BJP leaders. BJP leaders and activists were at his house since morning. The BJP called off the protest after the police issued a notice.


The police had been searching for P C George for the past two days. P C George had sought two days' time to appear. P C George made anti-Muslim remarks during a channel debate on January 5. The police registered a case based on a complaint by the Youth League Erattupetta Mandal Committee. The Kottayam Sessions Court and later the High Court had rejected P C George's anticipatory bail plea.
